We meet with them, get all of their information and open their case. A day or so later we confirm that the person who hat them has no insurance coverage to cover another’s injury, this is called no bodily injury coverage. Then we get the injured client’s insurance information and they don’t have uninsured/underinsured motorist coverage. At this point, we, unfortunately, can’t represent the injured client because there is no insurance money to recover, so we can only guide them to make sure they understand how to collect their PIP insurance.
How can this happen? Well, it is more common than you think. Over 23% of Florida drivers are completely uninsured. In Florida, drivers are only required to carry $10,000 in PIP and a minimum of $10,000 in property damage liability coverage.
