Why Having Uninsured Motorist Insurance is Important

Hi this is Mike Hancock and first I wanted to tell you how truly sorry I am that you were injured in your car accident as the result of someone else’s negligence. That should never happen to anybody. We have already explained how we can no longer represent you due to the fact that the other driver did not have any bodily injury liability coverage and you did not have uninsured motorist coverage and I wanted to explain in this video just how important it is in Florida to have uninsured motorist coverage.

There is a study that was done in Florida in 2015 that revealed 26.7% of all drivers on the road in Florida are completely uninsured, which means they do not have any insurance at all for their car. Those drivers considered uninsured above that 26.7% are a number of other drivers who have the bare minimum coverage in Florida, which is only PIP about which we have already talked. PIP is “personal injury protection” insurance which is something everybody has to have which is $10,000.00 to pay for your own medical bills regardless of who is at fault. That is your no-fault coverage. The only other coverage you have to have in Florida is property damage liability coverage in the minimum amount of $10,000.00 to pay for the other person’s property damage if you’re negligent and cause someone else’s car to be damaged. Those people make up probably another 15%. So, 42% of the claims out there involve uninsured motorists who do not have any type of insurance coverage to pay for your injuries and your damages and your pain and suffering.

As a result, that is why it is so important in Florida for you to go out and purchase uninsured motorist coverage for yourself. It covers your family and so in the situation where someone does not have bodily injury liability or does not have enough to pay for your injury, your own uninsured motorist coverage steps in and steps into the shoes of what the other driver should have had. So, you can go out and purchase uninsured motorist coverage to protect yourself and your family and that coverage will pay for your injuries, your medical bills, your lost wages, your pain and suffering. And one other thing I can tell you is this that adding uninsured motorist coverage to your policy is not a huge expense it is relatively inexpensive compared to some of the other coverages so when you watch this video I truly do invite you to give me a call so that I can advise you exactly what coverages I would recommend for you to have to protect yourself and to protect your family
