So what is MMI? MMI is a term that stand for Maximum Medical Improvement. And it’s a term your doctors will use to describe the point in your treatment where you are as good as you are going to get.
You may have a sprain of the neck or sprain of the back, and sometimes those injuries heal up with no residual problems. Other times. and for most of our clients that actually come to an attorney, most of our clients will have some residual problems at a certain point. And, so whether its 4 or 6 months after an injury, your doctor may say, you are as good as you are going to get from this injury and more importantly, here is hat your prognosis is for the future.
It may include opinions regarding how much medical care you’ll need in the future, how often you’ll need to go to the doctor, what doctors you will need to go to, how much you will need to spend every year, in the future on doctors and treatment and medicine.
The reason that Maximum Medical Improvement is so important in a Personal Injury Case is that we get that prognosis from your doctor, indicating that you will have certain problems and residual problems in the future and it helps us prove that our clients will have permanent injuries and permanent problems for the rest of their lives as a result of the negligent acts of somebody else. Someone who was distracted driving, or someone who is a DUI and it helps us be able to prove your case and get you the justice that you deserve.
