The topic of speed-racing has become more and more prevalent in Tampa Bay since a 24 -year-old woman and her baby were hit and killed on Bayshore due to speed racing. Unfortunately, there are many roads in Hillsborough that some people turn into race tracks, endangering others and themselves.
By looking at speeding ticket data from January to May, you can see where law enforcement is pulling over drivers the most. A popular speeding location is Gandy, where there were 333 citations issued so far in 2018. On Hillsborough Avenue, 466 citations have been issued since January and during that same time, there were 300 crashes, 200 injuries and four people killed. The number one speeding ticket spot so far in 2018 you could probably guess, is Bayshore. 430 citations from January to May, but an additional 300 have been issued since the accident mentioned above.
You might think, “well these roads are busy, that is why so many are cited and there are so many accidents.” However, when you look at the rural, residential streets in Ruskin, there was 168 crashes and 8 people killed since 2011. It is a problem across the board.
The worst speeding locations in Tampa since January of this year include:
- Dale Mabry: 388 tickets
- Bruce B Downs 284 tickets
- US 19 has over 200 tickets
In Pasco, SR-54 takes the cake with 124 tickets and in St. Petersburg, Gandy Blvd. takes the cake with 333 tickets issued.
Be a part of the solution and do not speed in Tampa Bay. It has been proven that speeding saves minutes on a journey, those minutes are not worth anyone’s life.
