We see clients come in every week because of injuries sustained from rear-end accidents. They most commonly occur on Fridays at 5PM. Surprising? No not really. It’s the end of the work week; people are racing home so they can do the fun things they have planned. Many are making those plans on their phones on the way home, leading to distracted driving. How old are most of these careless drivers? 20-24 years old.
The top 5 locations that these rear-end crashes occur are:
- I-75 at Brandon Blvd.
- 1-75 @ I-4
- US 19 @ Tampa Road
- I-275 @ I-4
- US 92 @ I-275
There was a total of 25,974 rear-end crashes in 2014 including 9,182 injury crashes and 22 fatal crashes. However, fatal crashes didn’t mostly occur at 5 PM, they occurred at 8PM. Most of these crashes occur during the busy holiday season- December. October comes in second place. Carrollwood only had 413 rear-end crashes between 2012 and 2014. In comparison, Clearwater had 4,061.
There were a total of 70,931 rear-end crashes between 2012 and 2014 and of those, 2,224 cited intoxication, 88 speeding and 8,305 aggressive drivers. The most distracted drivers were between the ages of 15-29. Of the rear-end crashes can cause severe injuries such as whiplash, spinal injuries and more.
