The “Waze” App is Making it Easier to Avoid Car Accidents
Every month the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Department creates a map of the most dangerous intersections in the Tampa Bay Area. While these are good to know, you aren’t able to look at this map while you are driving (Safely). However, the Waze app is changing that.
Starting in Los Angeles first, and then rolling out around the country, Waze the navigation app will start to use routes that avoid intersections they deem difficult, most without stoplights. This in turn might help reduce the amount of accidents in these intersections that are constantly overused.
The routes that the Waze app chooses will be the best ones with the lowest ETAs and as few dangerous intersections as possible. However, depending on your destination, it won’t be able to avoid them completely. Otherwise your trip could take way longer than expected.
The Waze app is one of the safest and most detailed navigation apps. You can’t adjust the map or change anything while you are driving or in motion. You have to wait until you stop driving to alter or look at the map in full. That is unless you turn that specific setting off which is not a recommendation.
With Waze putting drivers on different routes, these once called “dangerous intersections” might not be “dangerous” any longer. Again, Waze is rolling out this new feature in Los Angeles and then New Orleans, but soon will be available across the country.
