Tampa Sinkhole Litigation Attorney
Hancock Law Firm, P.A.
Whether you have minor cracks or serious structural damage from sinkholes, there is too much at stake to take no for an answer if your sinkhole insurance claim is denied. At Hancock Law Firm, P.A., we know that these claims are routinely denied, delayed or lowballed by insurers even though Florida law mandates coverage for sinkhole damage.
Tampa trial lawyer Mike Hancock has successfully appealed denied sinkhole insurance claims for clients in Tampa, St. Petersburg, Clearwater, Land O' Lakes, Lutz, Wesley Chapel, Lakeland, and throughout Hillsborough, Pinellas, Pasco, Hernando and Citrus counties. He has the experience and resources to protect your investment in your home and enforce your rights under your homeowners insurance policy. Contact him today for a free consultation about your options if your sinkhole claim has been rejected or if you believe a settlement offer is inadequate.
What If Insurance Denies My Sinkhole Claim?
Hancock Law Firm can guide you through the proper procedures after an insurance adjuster has determined that you do not qualify for sinkhole damage compensation:
- We will obtain the insurance report on the basis for denial and the methods the adjuster employed in concluding that the damage is minimal or not due to sinkhole activity.
- We hire geological experts who will review the insurer findings and visit your property to conduct their own tests.
- If our geologist finds evidence of sinkholes, we present an amended claim to the insurance company for payment of the documented damage and estimated repairs.
The insurance company will usually file with the state for a neutral evaluation. An independent geologist will review the findings of each side's experts, inspect the property and issue an opinion on whether there are sinkholes and how they should be remedied. The neutral evaluation is not binding — either party can file a lawsuit if it disagrees with the neutral evaluation.

The court may encourage mediation to try to work out a settlement. If no agreement is reached, the case will be set for trial. The vast majority of cases are settled out of court, but Mike Hancock is an accomplished litigator who is prepared to go to trial if necessary.
